Hi dear ones,

On 26 January 1950, India was proclaimed a republic. At this time, all British-awarded honours became obsolete. There was no honours system until 1954, when the Indian honours system was instituted.

These include the following:

  • Bharat Ratna — Gem/Jewel Of India (Bharat), the present highest honour India may bestow.

Param Vir Chakra — highest military award for valour.

Hi dear ones,

New Solution to reduce Global Warming.

Canadian and US scientists want to block the sun to cool the earth and limit global warming. Research and field-testing on what they call “geo-engineering” of the earth’s atmosphere to limit risk of climate change must begin quickly, say scientists from the University of Calgary in Canada, and the University of Michigan and Carnegie Mellon University in the US.
Studies on geo-engineering or solar radiation management (SRM) should be undertaken collectively with government funding, rather that unilaterally by nations, argue the scientists.

They say SRM would involve releasing mega-tonnes of light-scattering aerosol particles in the upper atmosphere to reduce earth’s absorption of solar energy, thereby cooling the planet.

Another technique would be to release particles of sea salt to make low-altitude clouds reflect more solar energy back into space, the scientists say.

hi dear ones,

Award Distribution: HOW ?

Despite Chandrayaan-1 being the first lunar mission of India, the scientists and engineers engaged in the mission remained unrecognized with no mention in the list of Padma Shri awardees.
The reason for their work being overlooked is a rule framed by the government a few years ago stipulating that those attached to government organizations like ISRO and Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) will not be entitled to any “government-backed” awards, like the prestigious Padma awards

This year, there was also controversy as many popular celebrities were awarded the Padma Shri, while many other deserving candidates were left out. One of them is Beijing Olympics bronze medal winning wrestler Sushil Kumar, his coach and former grappler Satpal recently said, “”Kumar was the one who got medal in wrestling after 50-60 years. He is an idol for young wrestlers. He should have got the Padma award.” The trend shows that the Padma awards are only given to people who are popular among the masses.
